Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Bradford

Scratched, corroded or peeling alloys? Here's the complete guide to what refurbishment involves, what it costs, and what's possible.

Bradford's roads are not kind to alloy wheels. Potholes, kerb contact, road salt and general urban driving all take their toll on wheel finishes over time. What starts as a single scuff can progress to peeling lacquer, exposed metal and eventually corrosion if left untreated. Alloy wheel refurbishment at Pro Flo Bradford can restore your wheels to a condition that's as good as — or better than — factory, typically at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

The Full Refurbishment Process: Step by Step

A proper alloy wheel refurbishment is a multi-stage process that takes time to do correctly. At Pro Flo, our refurbishment process follows these steps:

  1. Tyre removal: The tyre is carefully removed from the wheel to allow full access to all surfaces including the inner barrel
  2. Paint and lacquer stripping: Existing paint, lacquer and corrosion are removed chemically or by bead blasting to expose bare metal — this is essential for proper adhesion of new paint
  3. Damage repair: Kerb rash, deep scratches and minor impact damage are filled, shaped and sanded to restore the correct profile of the wheel face
  4. Primer application: A suitable primer coat is applied and allowed to cure, creating a bonding layer for the colour coat
  5. Colour coat: Matched to the original finish or your chosen colour, applied in multiple thin coats for an even, smooth result
  6. Lacquer seal: A clear lacquer topcoat is applied to protect the colour, provide gloss and seal against moisture, brake dust and road chemicals
  7. Tyre refitting and balancing: The tyre is refitted, inflated and balanced, and the wheel is ready to return to the vehicle

Turnaround Time

A full refurbishment requires adequate curing time between stages and cannot be rushed without compromising the final result. Typical turnaround at Pro Flo is 2–3 working days per wheel. If you're having all four wheels done, we can usually arrange to stagger the work or supply loan wheels to minimise the time your vehicle is off the road. Speak to us when booking to discuss the best approach for your situation.

What Damage Can Be Repaired?

Most cosmetic damage to alloy wheels is repairable through refurbishment. This includes:

  • Kerb rash — surface scuffing from contact with kerb edges
  • Deep scratches through the paint and into the alloy substrate
  • Peeling or flaking lacquer (which exposes the metal to corrosion)
  • Surface oxidation and corrosion on the wheel face
  • Faded, chalky or discoloured paintwork

What refurbishment cannot fix is structural damage. Cracked or buckled alloys must be assessed and repaired or replaced before refurbishment. A refurbished crack is both unsafe and won't hold the new paint finish for long. At Pro Flo, we always assess structural integrity before accepting a refurbishment job — if there's a crack or significant buckle, we'll tell you honestly.

"A well-done refurbishment on a quality set of alloys is almost always better value than replacement — and in many cases the result looks better than the original factory finish."

Price Guide

Alloy wheel refurbishment pricing depends on the size of the wheel, the extent of damage and the finish type. As a guide:

  • Standard refurbishment (15–17 inch): Approximately £50–80 per wheel
  • Larger wheels (18–20 inch): Approximately £75–100 per wheel
  • Diamond cut finish: Additional cost due to CNC machining requirement
  • Custom colours or unusual finishes: Price on application

These are guide prices; actual cost will be confirmed after inspection. For a free assessment and quote, bring your vehicle or send photos via WhatsApp to 01274 370194.

Refurbishment vs Replacement: The Economics

A single alloy wheel for a mainstream vehicle typically costs £100–300 new, rising significantly for premium or rare OEM fitments. Refurbishment at £50–80 per wheel is almost always the more economical choice when the alloy is structurally sound. The quality of finish from a professional refurbishment is comparable to new — and in many cases, with the right colour choice, genuinely better than the original factory coating.

Pro Flo Bradford has been refurbishing alloy wheels for Bradford, Shipley, Keighley and wider West Yorkshire customers since 2004.
